What is Home Blessing Day?

Home Blessing Day is something I came across as I was reading up on how to be a mom and a homemaker. The idea is to take one day per week and really clean your home. We choose to do this every Saturday, unless we have other plans. We usually sleep in a little, get a good breakfast and then get to it. Each child has a list of jobs that need to be done before moving on to play time. When we all work hard as a family we can get the house back in order in no time. Many hands make light work.

Who Does What?

The jobs my kids have now are jobs they have kind of grown into. For instance, my oldest can clean our shower really well, my 4-year-old cannot. However, my 4-year-old is excellent at wiping down all of our door knobs and light switches with an Envirocloth (we use Norwex, more on that later) and he is learning to clean our windows with an Enviro and Window Cloth as well! I love that he can clean without chemicals, he is super sensitive to smells and has been prone to allergies since birth, plus, chemicals are just plain yucky.

Here is a short break down of individual chores for Home Blessing Day for Summer 2019:

The Athletic One: 9-Years-Old

  • Clean Toilets
  • Clean Shower
  • Straighten Room
  • Put away any of his own laundry that is ready to be put away.
  • Help “The Silly One” put away his laundry.

The Silly One: 4-Years-Old

The Sweet One:- 1-Year-Old

  • Make a mess. Haha! He watches and (hopefully) learns the rhythm of our cleaning as a family each Saturday and will start helping as soon as he is ready.

Keep an eye out for a post of our system of paying our kids for their hard work!

I love the name! We did this with my mom growing up and I’ve struggled to consistently do this myself in my house. Although I’m chaotic, I grew up in order and know how much it helps me with everything. Like the idea of emphasizing that while “chores”, it serves a greater purpose.
